On October 6, Christine Tsang, our CEO, spoke at SF Tech Week on “Government, Media & AI: the Future of Public Affairs,” a panel hosted by Locunity in San Francisco’s Mission District. Reed Albergotti, tech editor at Semafor, moderated. Christine spoke for govtech alongside Neil Chase, CEO of CalMatters and The Markup, and Jonathan Bash, CEO of Locunity.
The evening brought together people who work in public affairs, government, journalism, and advocacy to compare notes and sketch a hopeful picture of what AI can mean for democracy and for their communities. After the panel, everyone broke into a civic salon for longer conversations with the panelists and each other.
Government and civic tech were a small corner of the week. Harrison MacRae, former Director of Emerging Technology for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was in the audience and noted on LinkedIn that only about 1% of SF Tech Week’s 1,500-plus events were about civic tech, government, or democracy. Thank you to Locunity for making room for this one, and to everyone who stayed to talk.
